Special Caution Needed When Traffic Lights Are Out

As Houston and other areas experience controlled power outages the risk of any Houston auto accident goes up substantially.

We learn early on that we can rely upon red and green lights for traveling safety to our destination. That is not the case when the lights may be out. After recent hurricanes, Texas personal injury lawyers saw an uptick in car accidents due to power outages.

If you are driving and suspect that the lights may not be working you have to use extra caution at intersections. You must assume that the other driver thinks his light is green because it is not red. It is much better to give someone the right of way who does not really have the right-of-way then to get into a bad traffic accident.

Use the extra caution get home to your family safely and realize in the over all scope of things five extra minutes in transit is no big deal.

Houston Couple Dies in Motorcycle Crash

A Houston area husband-and-wife perished in a motorcycle accident this weekend in Montgomery County. Reports indicate that a 23-year-old motorcycle rider and his wife crashed Sunday killing the driver instantly and his wife, a passenger later died at Memorial Hermann Hospital.

The accident happened on Kuykendahl, Sunday afternoon. According to reports, a car turned left into the motorcycle's path. The driver of the car was an elderly woman from Spring and she was also taken to the hospital for injuries.

Reports also indicate that the motorcycle driver and his passenger were not wearing helmets at the time of the motorcycle accident.

In 2009 Gov. Rick Perry signed a bill that related to motorcycle helmet use and stickers which previously were required to be placed on the motorcycle indicating completion of the safety course and applicable health insurance.

The vast majority of fatal motorcycle accidents involve head injury by the motorcycle rider. Obviously, motorcycles do not offer the same protection in case of a crash as do a car or a pickup truck. It is for that reason that motorcycles are so much more dangerous than passenger vehicles.

One of the largest reasons for motorcycle accidents is the failure on the part of the motoring public to see the motorcycle. This is why I advocate that motorcycle riders in the Houston area avoid congested roadways and also always drive with headlights on even in the daytime.

Blowout causes fatal car accident in Splendora

A fatal car accident happened Monday morning when a Ford Explorer and a blowout causing it to roll and strike a concrete barrier. The auto accident happened on Highway 59 outside of Houston Texas.

A 30-year-old woman lost her life in the rollover accident. Her mother and four children survived the car accident. The deceased's are mother was taken to Memorial Hermann Hospital at the Woodlands for treatment.

Fortunately for children in the vehicle sustained little or no injury. Apparently, according to reports seatbelt use is an issue in the ongoing investigation.

This terrible car accident is one that we see frequently when a driver is faced with the emergency situation of a blowout. The danger of rolling is increased when the tire that fails is on the rear of the vehicle, making the vehicle much harder to control.

Many times with tire blowouts the auto accident leads to fatal consequences.

Houston driver dies after car crashes into roof

A Houston man died in a fatal car accident when his car left I 45-feeder road and crashed into the roof of the building. The 21-year-old man was on the feeder road near Woodlands Parkway in Montgomery County and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The southbound feeder road across from the accident site was closed for seven hours while police cleared the accident scene.

The car that the young man was driving apparently hit a curb and then the driver lost control, which sent the car airborne and launched it into the roof of a building across the way. The car was stuck in the roof of the building.

Texas DPS is investigating the fatal car accident.

This is the fourth instance of a car striking a building and leading to serious injuries or death in Houston this year.

I'm sorry for the family of the young man who perished in this accident.

Drive safe -- be safe.
